The problem with deleting data is that it can be brought back by specialized software. Data recovery tools can bring deleted data back to life unless you do something about it. What you can do is use another type of specialized software, tools that can shred, that can securely delete data. LittleLite Software’s NShred is such an application. It will take the files and folders you specify and delete them so they can’t be brought back by data recovery tools.

The NShred installation file is little over 4Mb in size, meaning it will take but a moment for the download to complete. Going through the setup wizard to install the application will take little time as well. It’s as simple as agreeing with the license, picking the installation directory, and hitting Install. NShred can be installed on top of anything from Windows 7 down to Windows 2000.

On the application’s interface, in the left hand side, you will find buttons to add a folder and to add files for shredding, a button to access the application’s options, and a button to launch the shredding process. The large pane in the middle displays the files and folders you selected for shredding, and the progress bar down below presents the status of the shredding process.

To start using NShred’s functionality you must first select the files or folders you want to securely delete; you can easily do that by hitting the Add Folder and/or Add File buttons. By default, NShred uses the HMG IS5 Enhanced shredding method. From the Options menu you can switch to another shredding method, such as Single Overwrite or Gutmann. Once you’ve picked the files/folders you want to shred and after you’ve selected a shredding method, just hit the Shred button to launch the shredding process. In little time your data will be securely removed and you can rest assured that it won’t be brought back to life.

For a total of 30 days you can use NShred for free for evaluation purposes. Once this evaluation period is over, you will have to get a license to keep using the application.

Securely delete the confidential data that you safeguarded until you needed it no more. Use NShred to ensure no one can recover the confidential files you got rid of.

Pros

Works with any Windows edition you can think of; the installation process does not take long to complete. NShred comes with a simple, user friendly interface. Pick the shredding method to securely remove files and/or folders. NShred does its job rapidly.

Cons

Free to use for a 30-day trial.
